Led Display Signs "MADE TO ORDER" Mega LED Displays are available in 15mm, 20mm, 26mm & 30mm pitch. Pitch is the distance (center to center) between pixels (LED's or LED clusters for multi-color signs). The closer the pixels the smaller the pitch, and consequently the higher the resolution/definition (better graphics &: images). Conversely, the higher the pitch (more space between pixels) the lower the resolution/definition, resulting in lower quality graphics & images. However, the higher the pitch (lower resolution) the more sign (size wise) for the money. The graphic shown below may help illustrate the difference between the 4 pitches available (15mm, 20mm, 26mm & 30mm). NOTE the size of the modules shown to the right.

Generally, if you intend to display photo or video type graphics, you will want to go with a 15mm or 20mm pitch, unless your sign is a minimum 36"h x 85"w, and your viewers will be 150 feet or farther away, in which case a 26mm pitch may work well for you. 30mm pitch signs are usually best for "mostly text" messages, with limited or simple graphics. Of course, if you are interested in a much larger sign with viewers at a minimum of 200 feet or farther, then a 30mm pitch can be effective for graphics and more economical as well.

For text messages, all pitch sizes work well and will produce clear, crisp letters/characters. You will want to consider minimum and maximum character size, along with the maximum number of characters per line (stationary mode), and the max number of lines the sign can display. These factors can be evaluated using the "SIGN LINE & CHARACTER SIZE CALCULATOR" available via the link on the "Sign Selection Guide Worksheet". You will find that higher or larger pitches will offer larger signs with large characters, but they may be limited to a smaller number of text lines, and fewer characters per line (for the same sign size range). Referring to the graphic shown above, you will note that all 4 pitch sizes shown are illustrated as 16 pixels x 16 pixels.

Our LED signs are made with 16x16 pixel modules (as are almost all LED signs), so sizes are limited to 16, 32, 48 .... pixel heights and widths. Characters require a minimum of between 5-7 of pixel height with at least 1 pixel of separation between lines. This translates to roughly 1 line of text for every 8 pixels of sign height (16 pixel height = 1-2 text lines, 32 ph = 1-4 text lines, etc). The LED sign display size is determined by pixel height and width (the pixel matrix) and the pixel pitch (distance between pixels). Between the pixel matrix (base on 16x16 pixel modules) and the pixel pitch, LED Display Signs offers every possible combination to best meet your sign needs as closely as possible.

The bottom line is that for bigger signs meant to be seen from a greater distance or large text only messages, a higher pixel pitch is the way to go.
For higher resolution graphics and images or more text in a smaller sign, lower pixel pitch is the way to go.
